the orangery

The outstanding architectural feature of Kilworth House Hotel is its glorious star-listed Victorian Orangery. Now fully restored, the Orangery has become a destination venue in its own right – light, bright and airy by day, and glitteringly romantic by night.

That ever-changing light is the key to the Orangery's leisurely round-the-clock ambiance. At any time of day the mood feels right: for morning coffee, a light lunch, afternoon tea or informal night-time dining.

Up to 130 guests can dine beneath the Orangery's ceiling of glass, timber and ornate wrought iron. Here, the maximum table size is eight, while the table layout is flexible enough to include soft furnishings at times when the restaurant is less busy. That means that during the day and on mid-week evenings, you can round off your Orangery meal with a pot of coffee in the nearby easy chairs.

The relaxed informality of the Orangery is reflected in the choice offered by its own Orangery menu.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea is an English institution – a nineteenth-century invention to lift the aristocracy’s spirits when they felt peckish towards the end of the day.

To enjoy afternoon tea at its best, you should take it in surroundings similar to those in which the Victorians enjoyed theirs. Somewhere like Kilworth House Hotel where afternoon tea has been served for well over a hundred years.

With so much tradition behind it, tea at Kilworth House has remained true to its hunger-banishing Victorian roots. There’s a generous range of sandwiches, scones, cakes, and pastries, plus ten varieties of tea to choose from. For a more modern twist, you can opt for coffee, hot chocolate, or herbal tea.

Best of all, you can take afternoon tea virtually anywhere in the hotel: in your room or in the library. Wherever you choose, we’ll bring your tea to you, arranged on an appetisingly large, three-tiered stand.

Afternoon tea is served from 3pm to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 4pm to 6pm on Sunday.
